Metrozet M2166-VBB

Very-Broadband Seismometer

The Metrozet M2166-VBB Seismometer is designed as a modern replacement for the world's highest-performance vault sensor, the Streckeisen STS-1VBB. It provides equivalent noise performance over an ultra-wide bandwidth (greater than 10,000 seconds to 15 Hz), with a similar response function (2400 V-sec/m velocity output, 360 seconds to 15 Hz and 8000 V-sec2/m acceleration output, DC to 360 seconds).

The M2166-VBB adds a number of enhancements designed to facilitate its use within a modern seismic network. These include remote control of sensor response parameters (switching between 10 second setup and 360 second operational modes), centering motor control (including autocenter), and a comprehensive calibration capability.

The sensor elements are integrated within monolithic, all-metal aluminum package that implements the field-proven "warpless &" baseplate design for minimization of atmospheric pressure effects on the horizontal sensor response. The package provides a highly-reliable vacuum seal as well as integrated magnetic shielding of the vertical sensor. The M2166-VBB is designed to provide the modularity that is required by network operators. Individual sensor elements, electronic modules, and cabling are all field-swappable, with no change on sensor response.
